Cees Dekker is KNAW Royal Academy Professor and Distinguished University Professor at TU Delft. Trained as a physicist, he pioneered nanotechnology and explored carbon nanotubes in the 1990s. From 2000 onwards, he moved to single-molecule biophysics and nanobiology. His recent research is on chromosome biology, nanopores for sequencing and mimicking nuclear transport, and synthetic cells. Dekker published over almost 400 peer-reviewed papers that got cited >80.000 times (H-index 117). He was awarded many prizes including 3 ERC Advanced Grants and the Innovation in Nano Research Prize awarded from the Republic of Korea, he received an honorary doctorate and he was knighted .
